Obafemi Awolowo University and The University of Ibadan have emerged as the best Nigeria Universities in 2023 by Webometrics in its latest ranking
The analysis of the latest ranking showed that no Nigeria University was among the top 1000, in the world.
UI rated , 1116 in the world, though ranked first in Nigeria.
Obafemi Awolowo took a leap in the ranking of Universities in 2023 by Webometrics , coming second in the country with 1534 points in impact rank, 1020 points in openness rank and 1904 points in Excellence rank. These were the three criterias used for the ranking.
The Ranking Web also called Webometrics is the highest academic ranking of Higher Education institution which is based on the assessment of “Composite indicators and Web impact factors”.
“The original aim of this Ranking is to, support the Open
Access initiatives for increasing significantly the
transfer of scientific and cultural knowledge
generated by the universities to the whole
Society” and also promote academic web presence.
“In order to achieve this objective, the publication
of rankings is one of the most powerful and
successful tools for starting and consolidating
the processes of change in the academia,
increasing the scholars’ commitment and setting
up badly needed long term strategies,”
Webometrics said on its website.
